The Community-Campus Partnership was recently made aware of an opportunity that may be of interest to local agencies or community-based organizations working on public-health related issues. The Department of Health Behavior and Health Education at the UNC Gillings School of Global Health (SPH) is looking for participatory public health projects as part of the culminating field experience for the Master of Public Health (MPH) program, Capstone. Over the course of 2 semesters (8 months), teams of 4-6 students work to produce a set of products or deliverables for a local agency, community-based organization, or other group working on public health-related issues. The goals of Capstone are to:
Ideal Capstone projects enable students to develop and/or enhance skills in as many of the following areas as possible:
**If your organization is interested in submitting a Capstone project proposal, please review the documents included at the end of this post, complete the HBHE Capstone Project Proposal Form, and submit the form to Meg (Ellenson) Landfried, HBHE MPH program manager, at ellenson@email.unc.edu by Friday February 3, 2012.** All Capstone project proposals will be reviewed for feasibility and appropriateness. Invitations will be extended to 15-20 potential Capstone partner organizations to present their project proposals to MPH students in mid-March. After hearing the presentations, students will rank their top 3 choices for Capstone projects. On April 2, a “match” between student teams, a faculty adviser, and the Capstone partner organization will be announced. Roughly 10-12 Capstone projects for the 2012-2013 academic year will be selected. An initial meeting between community partners and Capstone students will be held in April. Work on the Capstone projects will officially begin in September 2012. For more information about the Capstone, and to receive specific information about project proposals, you may attend a Capstone information session on Wednesday, January 18 at 5:15pm at the UNC SPH, McGavran-Greenberg Hall, Room 1305. - Provide mentored, real-world learning opportunities for MPH students;
- Provide services to, and advance the missions of, local organizations who do public health-related work; and
- Produce products that have a positive impact on public health.

- Assessment
- Engagement
- Intervention Selection/ Development/ Adaptation/ Implementation
- Evaluation
- Dissemination
- Sustainability
- Translation
- Grant Writing
