The following are articles and reports on the web that the Community and Economic Development Program at the UNC School of Government shared through social media over the past month. Follow us on twitter or facebook to receive regular updates.

Items of interest related to CED in North Carolina:

Congratulations to Henderson, NC and other NC communities awarded CDBG-Neighborhood Revitalization funding. UNC DFI supported the city’s application to this program as part of DFI’s community development technical assistance. https://bit.ly/3rhlOLz

Report from Terner Housing discusses how hotels/motels can be converted to affordable housing. Already happening in NC, two projects underway in Asheville and Charlotte. https://bit.ly/3ALkinM

News & Observer reports on the challenges for first-time buyers in a high-rent environment such as the Triangle, featuring faculty colleague Roberto Quercia. https://t.co/BrD5qqu47S

Durham’s Willard Street affordable housing project with dental clinic, developed by DHIC and Self Help, was featured this month in HUD’s online magazine. https://t.co/ZIb7hxCAY8

DFI in the news:

Wake Forest Board of Commissioners votes to move forward with UNC DFI to a solicitation for a development partner for SunTrust site. https://bit.ly/3HiHKLQ

Other CED Items:

US Treasury released its final rule for ARP/CSLFRF. See the final rule (https://t.co/PJ2s2pNClN) and summary document (https://t.co/rE9oIsVzpx). More to follow as we digest the differences between this final rule and the interim guidance that was issued last year.

High sale prices for homes have a side effect: Higher income households can’t afford to buy first home, so stay in rentals and drive up rents which worsens housing insecurity for low income workers. See new Harvard JCHS rental housing report. https://bit.ly/3ufJKko
